Lieutenant George Massey. son of the Prime Minister, who went to the front as p.atoon commander in the Rifle Brigade, and who has been in the trenches with his men up to the present, has been appointed adjutant to his battalion.
Word has been received in Napier that Lieutenant Von Tempsky Kettle was first in in examination held in Egypt fir bombing and the use of the periscope r:fle. Over 100 English and oo'onia! officers participated in this examination.
Miss Blanche Bntler. headmistress of the Auckland Girls' Grammar School, who was granted a year's leave, of absence, has visited relatives and friendin various parts of England and France s'n'-e her arrival in March, and is staying in London until August.
Word was received yesterday by Mr. .1. B. MacFarlane that his soil. Captain Blythe MacFarlane, lias been severely ill with gastritis, and is at present convalescent 'ii England. Captain MacFarlane. who was wonnded at Gallipoli -.ml invalided home, returned to the front some time ago.
Mr. Lionel Curtis, of the Round Table organisation, and a leader in the Round Table inquiry into the problem of British Imperialism, arrived in Auckland yesterday. He delivered an address on Empire Unity during the afternoon in the Chamber of Commerce, and will lecture on similar matters to-morrow in the Town Hall concert chamber. Mr. Curtis is staying at the Northern Club.

Before he enlisted Captain Birch i was an officer in the employ of the Adelaide Steamship Company. " He was spi pointed to the Daniel recently.
