FRENCH TAKE TRENCHES NORTH OF VERDUN. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association LONDON. August 15. A French communique states: "On the right bank of the Meuse, north of Chapelle Sainte Fine, enemy trenches were taken on a front of over 300 yds to a depth of over 100 yds. The counter-attack was broken. " A German detachment, after a heavy bombardment, penetrated a small salient of our line north-west of Heaurge, north of the Aisne. Our counter-attack threw the enemv nut."
