NORTHERN TERRITORY.
SETTLEMENT PROSPECTS.
PESSIMISTIC STATEMENT.
Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.
(Received June '.29. 1 a.m.)
MELBOURNE. JUNE 28. Mr. Boys, late manager of the Daly River Demonstration Farm, Northern Territory, who has returned to Victoria, states that he resigned the managership on account of the attitude of the Administrator, Dr. J. A. Gilruth, and of, in his opinion, the utter hopelessness of the settlement ever being in the least degree a success. Mr. Boys declares that most of the settlers were induced there by the roseate prospects conjured up by the Administrator. They already have abandoned their holdings, leaving their stock, implements, and houses to avoid complete ruin. Recently Dr. Gilruth reported that things were going well at Ratchelor farm, whereas the manager reported that matters were very bad. Mr. Boys considers that Daly River will never be successful as a dairying settlement, therefore it is very unfair to induce settlers to go there.
