GRAMMAR SCHOOLS.
A meeting of the Board of Governors of the Auckland Grammar School was held yesterday, the vice-chairman, Professor A. P. W. Thomas, presiding. There were also present: Messrs. A. Kidd, J. H. Upton, S. I. Crookes, G. W. Murray, A. R. Harris, and G. J. Garland.
A letter was received from the Schools Committee asking that the Prime Minister bo invited to visit the Mount Eden school with a view to improvements. The vice-chairman reported that he had already communicated with Mr. Massey on the subject. The acting-headmistress of the girls' school wrote asking for a grant towards the school library. A sum of £10 was' voted, the money to bo expended on standard works.
Mr. G. J. Garland expressed the opinion that the board should pay an official visit to the boys' and girls' schools at least once a year. The suggestion was approved, the vice-chairman to consult with the headmaster and the headmistress respectively as to a suitable date. With a view to letting the old Grammar School building in Symonds Street, the vice-chairman was requested to consult with the Property Committee as to a suitable rent.
