WAIHI REEFS GIGANTIC,

The manager of the Wailii Reefs Gigantic mine, Waihi, reports as follows on operations at No. 2 shaft:—Driving north on reef system at 300 ft level is being continued, and the total driven at this point now measures 96ft, 89ft being on a direct northerly course and 7ft of crosscutting at right angles into the reef-body. Strong quartz continues in the face of tho drive, and samples for assay are taken at intervals. Dark quartz of a rubbly and wet nature has come in on the west side, whereas on the east wall the quartz is hard, and of a lighter colour, good patches of mineral being visible. At other points in this level _ strong bodies of quartz exist, and certain work is being kept going upon these by blasting and sampling with the view of testing all quart?, exposed. At the same time regular work' is kept going upon the big reef in a northerly direction. RISING SUN. Stoping on No. 1 reef over the low level in No. 1 and No. 2 blocks in the Rising Sun mine, Owharoa, is being continued as usual. The manager reports that the width of the reef is much the same as previously reported, and the value of the ore broken continues to be of good grade. The face going north was extended from 251 ft to 257 ft. The reef has been about 15in wide, and the ore continues to be of high grade. A start was made on Tuesday last driving on No. 2 reef in the low level north of the winze. This reef was previously known as the sulphide lode. Progress for the period worked was sft. The reef, which is divided in two parts, owing to a horse of mullock some 2ft in width, carries highly-payable values. The eastern . and western branches are each about 6in in size.
