THE LEAGUE GAME.
Senior championship. The Auckland Rugby League's championship matches wore advanced a stage on Saturday, when the fifth round of matches ] was played. The weather was again fine, but a strong easterly wind was blowing. The City Rovers-Grafton Athletic match at Victoria Park attracted an attendance of about 3000 spectators, who were rewarded with a, piffle which was full of incident and exciting right up to the call of time. Grafton won by 14 points to 10, and is now leading for the senior grade championship. In the other senior matches. North Shore Albions defeated Newton Rangers by 35 poirt's to 6. and Otahuhu and Ponsonby United played a drawn game. 6 points each. The position* of tho senior grade teams are us follow:— Points. 'I he City-Grafton match attracted a large attendance to Victoria Park, and spectators* who had expected a ..lose contest were not disappointed. A«her opened City's score with a. penalty goal. The red-and-blacks kept on the pressure, and Sutton scored a try, which wa rf not improved upon. Just on half-time J) McGregor scored a try for Grafton, and the scores when tho teams changed over were: City, 8; Grafton. 3. . The Otahuhu and Ponsonby teams met at the former club's ground on Saturday, and a close and exciting game resulted. The home team opened with a penalty goal, lucked by Farrelly, and before the spell .fisher scored a trv for the same side. In the second "poll Webb scored for Ponsonby from a mink, and Norgrovo secured a try tho game thus ending in 11 draw, with the stores .-- Otahuhu 5 l'onsctjjby United .5 ? THIRD GRADE. Newton, defeated River head by 44 points FOURTH GRADE. City defeated Newton by 5 points to 3.
FIFTH GRADE. * City defeated Otahuhu by 9 points, to 0. SIXTH GRADE. j North Shore defeated Richmond by 52 points to 0. . I City defeated Otahuhu by 52 points to 0. THE ASSOCIATION GAME. . GRADE COMPETITIONS. Tho (Trade competitions of the Auckland Football Association were continued on Saturday. In the first grade matches, Y.M.C.A. defeated North Shore by 3 goals to 1. and Richmond defeated Everton by 2 coals to 1. NORTH SHORE V. Y.M.C.A. Tho North Shore and Y.M.C.A. teams met at tho Domain. Goals were scored for Y.M.C.A. by L. Webber and, Sharp (3). and for North Shore by Perrett. The game resulted : — Y.M.C.A. 5 North Shore 1 RICHMOND V. EVERTON. The Richmond and Everton teams met at the Domain, and a close game resulted. Cairns and Eckman scored for Richmond, and Mouatt for Everton. The game ended: — Richmond ... ... - Everton 1 SECOND DIVISION. Everton defeated North Shore by 9 goals to 0. Richmond defeated Devonport Presbyterians by 6 goals to 2. FIFTH DIVISION. Technics! College defeated Everton by 4 goals to 1. SIXTH DIVISION. Belmont defeated Tiikapuna by 3 goal? to I. The North Shore A-Northcoto match was not played, owing to the non-appearance of the referee. TUNNELLERS AT PLAY. A team of Association footballers drawn from tho Tunnelling Company of Engineers now in camp at Narrow Neck played a. combined team from Auckland city clubs at North Shore on Saturday. The combined team had slightly the better run of play, and seven coals were scorod for them by Halliday. whilo for the Tunnellers goals were scored by Porteous. Irvine, and Heyes.
