CARLTON CLUB'S REPORT. The annual meeting of the Carlton Bowling Club will be held on Wednesday next Ihe report to be submitted to the meeting win show that the Carlton Club has just closed the most successful season in its history , bounded in 1893 in a very small way the cluo has progressed by leaps and oounds and is now one of the largest ciuos in the .Dominion. Homo four years ago the club purchased over an. acre of ground in Fairfax rtoad. close to the tram line, and have laid down two eight-rink greens and built a handsome pavilion costing £1000. One of the ifieens was used during last season and l played excellently. The second green will | be ready for play at the commencement of i the coming bowling season. In addition to the new freehold property, the club still has the old bowling green at Newmarket, half of which has been converted into a tennis lawn and the other half to croquet. The winter green on the western side of Manukau Road is still playing well, and is occupied daily in fine weather throughout the winter. The Carlton Club's finances are in a flourishing condition, and the club now owns property valued at £3000. The club has been particularly favoured by the liberality of its members, many gifts of various kinds having been made, and a large sum of money subscribed by way of debentures for the purchase of the property. Notwithstanding the fact that the club lost a number of its members through enlistment for the front and other causes, there has been a clear gain of 11 on last season's list. The- Ladies' Croquet Club has a membership of 50 players, and is located on the bowling club's old summer green at Newmarket, an ideal lawn for croquet. A t subsidiary club, called the Carlton Tennis Club, was formed during last season and consists of 45 members, and occupies half of the old green at Newmarket. An "At Home" of bowlers and croquet players was held on the Fairfax Road green to wind up the season, and proved most successful, the ladies, taking part in the same of bowls. A eories of socials of memors.of the combined bowling, croquet, and tennis clubs ar» being held during the winter months. The first was held on May 17, and was a great success, over 100 members attending the social. A large attendance of members is anticipated at the annual meeting next Wednesday, when important matters will come up for consideration.
