DISCHARGED SOLDIERS.

♦ REPORT OF DEPARTMENT. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Saturday. A report showing what, had been done by the Discharged Soldiers' Employment Department up to June 8 was furnished by the Hon. A. L. Herdman to-day. The report showed that the total number of men on the register was 4759; cases disposed of, 2624; under consideration, 1135, not ready for consideration, including men returned by recent transports, 1000. Other details were: Left New Zealand or address unascertainable, 103; re-enlisted and returned to military duty, or have work to return to, 1182; men not requiring assistance, 702; men placed in employment, 551 at present on employment register, 372. The number of men in Auckland still unplaced is 69— the second highest on the list—an J in Hamilton 10.
