TAKAPUNA FINANCES.

i CURRENT YEAR'S ESTIMATES. The estimates for works to be undertaken this year in the Borough of Takapuna I were before the council on Wednesday I night. Mr. E. E. Grimwade, chairman j of the Legal and Finance Committee, in : moving their adoption, said the figures indicated the progress of the borough. i There was an opinion throughout the ! borough that the council was lavish in l its expenditure. So far as the loan works ' were concerned, he would Bay emphatically ' that the roads were being constructed : in the most economical way. By making substantial roads in the first place constant repairs were rendered unnecessary. The town clerk had furnished!: figures i showing that the percentage of gross j receipts absorbed in administration charges ' was diminishing. In the borough's first year, 1913-14. the percentage was 10.8, whereas in 1915-16 it was 7.17, and it was anticipated that at the end of the i current year it would be 6.5. The loss I in sanitation had dropped from £603 in ! 1914-15 to £170 in 1915-16, and it was i anticipated that the loss on the present ' year's workings would be £171. The loss on water had dropped from £228 to £16. The following figures were supplied to show the administration results during the past three years and the estimates for the current year:—Administration : 191314, £421 17s lid; 1914-15, £708 13s 4d ; 1915-16, £890 14? lOd; 1916-17, £796 10s. Receipts from all sources : £3887, £9083, ' £12,398, and £12,232. j The estimated revenue includes £6746 ' general rates, £446 sanitation fees, and £580 rates and fees on water.
