TURKS UNABLE TO STOP RUSSIAN ADVANCE.
ENFORCEMENTS FAIL TO AFFECT THE SITUATION. ENEMY HURLED BACK ALONG THE BLACK SEA. Times «nd Sydney Sun Services. (B«ooived May 18. 7 p.m.) LONDON. MAY 17. The Petrograd correspondent of the London Times states that the Turks have been shattered and hurled back along the line of the Black Sea. The centre manifested a partial recovery, nevertheless the arrival of reserves failed materially to affect the situation to the enemy's advantage. After suffering heavily the Turks have been obliged to suspend the offensive in the Erzangan region, 86 miles from Erzeroum, and remain impotent to oppose the progress of the Russian left wing.
