AMAC DAY MESSAGE.

General Sir William Birdwood sent tho following reply to an Anzao Day message from returned soldiers in New Zealand :- "Many thanks for your good wishes, which have been passed on to Capo Helles comrades; all Anzacs here send their returned comrades hearty greetings. OBSERVANCE IN THE COUNTRY. PATRIOTIC ADDRESSES DELIVERED At Taumarunni the attendance was not large. Addresses were given by the Major, Mr. Steadman, and the Revs. Kempthorne, Ward, and Sage, and Gaptain Harford. _ A public meeting was held in the Warkworth Town Hall on Tuesday. Mr. Alex. Wariii, chairman of the Town Board, presided. Speeches were delivered by the Revs. McDonald, Boyle, and Southern, and by Messrs, Roydhouse, Attwcod, and Shannon. Several musical items were given. A resolution in memory of the fallen, and expressing determination to honour them by doing all possible to help in the war, was carried by tho audienco standing in silence. The schoolchildren marched to tho Town Hall on breaking up for the Easter holidays, and were addressed by several speakers on the meaning of the Empire and of the Anzac celebration. „.,, „ ~ At the invitation of Mr. Riddel], the scholars of the Gordonton, Komokorau, and Whitikahu schools assembled at Woodlands, Gordonton. Mr. Salmon, secretary of the School Committee, presided. Mr. 'Riddell recalled the worthy deeds of the past, and the many victories, apparently against overwhelming forces, to which now would be added the glorious landing on Gallipoli. "Mr. McGregor said New Zealand lads had followed the glorious traditions of the race. Amongst tho speakers was Trooper T. Thomson, son of Mr. Thomson, of Gordonton. The children marched past and saluted the flag and its brave defender.
