DRIVEN FROM BRITISH TRENCHES NEAR SOUCHEZ. STOPPED BY FRENCH FIRE IN LORRAINE. (Received April 27, 11 p.m.) London, April 26. Sir Douglas Haig reports:—" The enemy sprung a mine southeast of Souchez, and obtained a footing in our trenches. A counterattack drove him out." A French communique states:—"The Germans attempted to debouch against our. position north of Senones, in Lorraine, but were stopped by our curtain fire. The German losses in the attack on La Chapelotte salient are estimated at about 1000."
