THE NATIONAL RESERVE.

SOUTHERN OFFICERS' DISPUTE.

A mketixg of officers commanding units of , the National Reservo which met in Well-' ington recently for the purpose of recommending a district commandant, resulted in failure. The meeting was attended by four officers, commanding units, an actingcommander and two adjutants. It was pointed out that as the meeting was convened only for officers commanding companies it was not in order, as there wer» other officers present. The chairman, Major Davis, did not agree, and a motion was moved that the acting-commander and the two adjutants should retire. This was seconded, but the chairman refused to put the motion. Three of the officers commanding present thereupon left the meeting as a protest. The three subsequently decided . to circularise the officers commanding companies of group 5, with a view to convening another meeting in terms of the resolution passed at the recent general meeting of officers, over which Colonel Porter the Dominion commandant, presided Tbey also resolved to notify the commandant of what had taken place, stating that they were desirous of doing all they could to cany out his wishes, and trusting that he would support tiiem in their action.
