Dr. E. W. Sbarman was a passenger for Wellington by the express last even, ing.'

Mr. Charles Boyd, of the Education Department, Wellington, is on a visit to Ancldand.

Captain Neville Newcomb, adjutant ol the Feathersloc camp, left for the South last evening.

Commissioner and Mrs. Hodder, of tho Salvation Army, were passengers by tha first express for Wellington last evening.

Major C. E. Maguire. N.Z.M.C., who has been with the New Zealand troops in Egypt for some months past, will arrive in Auckland to-morrow.

Mr. D. .A. Solomon, a, well-known 3ngline enthusiast, arrived by tho Victoria from Sydney. Mr. Solomon, who is so companied by Mrs. Solomon, is staying at the Grand Hotel.

Lieuts. K. M. Barrance, Devonport, raid H. A. Delaulonr, Wellington, have been appointed to the reinforcements for the Tunnelling Company of Engineers. They will report for duty on May 4.

Mr. Raynor White, organist and choirmaster of St. John's, Ponsonby, has been appointed to a similar position at St. Paul's, Christchurch. He will leave neit month to take up his new duties.

Major J. L. Sleeman, assistant-director of military training, inspected the Maori contingent at Narrow Neck yesterday, and > gave a lecture to all ranks on " Modern Trench Warfare." He subsequently inspected the harbour defences. He left for Wellington last evening.

Mr. S. J. Harbutt, a member of the Auckland Hospital Board, who is travel, ling in Australia, stated in a letter to the secretary of the board that ho had visited the Melbourne Hospital, and would also visit the Sydney institution. Ho would submit his observations in the form of a report to tho board.

The Rev. F. Copcland, Methodist missionary, who for the past three years lia-s been in Samoa, returned to Auckland by the Talune, which arrived here yesterday. Mr. Copeland has been granted three months' leave of absence, and will return to Samoa at tho end of that time. Ho was formerly in charge of the Methodist Church at Temuka, South Canterbury.

Major J. T. Large, a prominent resident of the Cook Islands, has arrived in Wellington from Raroton a for the purpose of offering bis services to the Government in some military capat ity. He is over 70 years of age, and has been a resident of the islands for many years, having been a very successful planter. He formerly acted as resident agent for the New Zealand Government and tho Union Steam Ship Company.
