GERMAN PROFESSOR LEAVES

London, April 2. Professor Ludvng Becker, who lias occupied the chair of astronomy at Glasgow University, and has also been chief astronomer at the Observatory in that city, has withdrawn from both positions, and has left Glasgow at the request of Mr. Wood, Secretary for Scotland.

Professor Becker, who was educated at Bonn University, has been professor of astronomy at Glasgow University since 1893. He is 56 years old. and lias been associated with astronomical observations in Britain for 30 years.
