The staff of the Government statistician has been largely increased for the purpose of completing the national register. Some 150.000 names are in possession of the Department for the purpose of inquiry whether the persons therein set out have or have not sent ia registration cards. Careful inquiry is being made by the police as to the correctness of the names, and whether the person is of military age. On receipt of this information the Department will be ready to prosecute all men not on the register. Cabinet has agreed that 14 days' grace shall be allowed all unregistered men. The dates will be announced in due course, and prosecutions will follow.
Cabinet has also determined to issue a further proclamation requiring all persons who have arrived in the Dominion since the date of the national register to forward registration cards. It is also necessary for those who have arrived at military age since that date to forward cards.
These proclamations will be coii'-'r.uous.
