APPOINTMENTS OF TEACHERS.

PETONE RESOLUTION.

The Petone District High School Committee, Wellington, has objected to the methods adopted by the Wellington Education Board in supplying the names of teachers available for appointment. It is the practice of the board to supply the names of all the teachers who have applied for the position, but only the credentials of the one whom the board recommends. The board asks the committee to select a teacher from the list supplied, which request the committee considers a farce, as without the credentials of the other teachers the committee is restricted to the one chosen by the board. A stronglyworded resolution was carried at a recent meeting of the committee objecting to the practice, and protesting against the calling together of the committee to consider an appointment already practically made by the board. The resolution states that there is nothing in the Act to prevent the entire credentials as well as the names being forwarded to the committee.
