THE HARBOUR BOARD.

PROTECTED ANCHORAGES.

POSITION OF BOATBUILDERS.

The Auckland Harbour Board met yesterday, Mr. H, D. Heather presiding. There were also present: Messrs. W. E. Hutchison, E. W. Alison, H. H. MacKenzie, M. H. Wynyard, P. J. Nerheny, E. J. Carr, T. B. Arthur, and A, J, Entrican.

A report was received from the harbourmaster, Captain H. H. Sargent, to the effect that the anchorages which he understood were designed by the board for yachts and launches were being largely utilised by boatbuilders. Some of the latter already had three moorings, and were asking for more. Ho sought a ruling from ,the board as to what attitude to adopt.

The chairman said that when these inchorages were originally sot aside the ntention was that they should bo projected anchoragescfor yachts and launches. Sovoral boatbuilders had been granted moorings, however, and they brought in boats for repairs and left them at the moorings, and sometimes on the beach. The harbourmaster was finding difficulty in tracing the owners of such boats. It was decided to have a by-law drafted by the board's solicitor to 'be submitted to the board in committee

The Minister for Munitions, the Hon. A. M. Myers, wrote acknowledging the information supplied by the board regarding tlio plant in its possession. He stated that it had been found impracticable to manufacture munitions in the Dominion without seriously interfering with the ordinary output of the railway and other workshops in New Zealand. The Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Company requested the board to erect a gangway at the western bertfi at The Ferries similar to that at the eastern side. The engineer reported that there was notliing to provent the company from placing its gangway in the recess arranged for when the roofing was built, and'that the necessary alterations to the handrail could then bo made. It was decided to reply in the terms of the engineer's report. It was decided, on the recommendation of the engineer and harbourmaster, to offer the City Council a berth on the western side of Fitzroy Wharf for its trawler. "" Plans of tho new Onehunpa Wharf, approved by the Manukau Harbour Committee, were referred to the board in 1 committee.
