CHARGE OP ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

[nr TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Hamilton, Friday. A young man named Wan. McGuire, who was found with his throat cut near NgaruaW.ahia ahout throe weeks ago, was charged with having attempted suicide. The po'lico and medical evidence showed that ho had been suffering from delusions that ho was being prosecuted, the result of over drinking. The police said they were convinced tho act was not premeditated. McGuire expressed regret, and promised to abstain from drink in future. He was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called on, and was also prohibited;

At the annual meeting of the Choral Society the report showed a deficit of over £30, and expressed the feeling that the public did not appreciate the society's efforts. After a lengthy discussion it was decided to suspend for a year. The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, Minister for Agriculture, when on his way to Rotorua, en route to the Opotiki Snow, inspected the site of the proposed municipal abattoirs at Hamilton East. The site has been approved by the Department, and the council intends taking the laitd under the Public Works Act. A large number of Auckland poultrybreeders, who for the past week have been attending a series of demonstrations by Mr. P. C. Brown, chief poultry 'instructor at Auckland, arrived to-night. They will visit the poultry section at the fiuakura Farm under the' direction of Mr. Brown. A large meeting of business men held last night decided to send a deputation to the Borough Council to urge the carrying out of improvements and renovations" at the saleyards, for which money was raised by a poll over 12 months ago. A meeting of farmers will, be held to-morrow to discuss | the advisability of erecting saleyards inside the borough.
