MASTER BUILDER KILLED.

HIT ON HEAD BY FALLING IRON.

Wellington-, Sunday. A builder named Henry Gray, of the contracting firm of McLean and Gray, now building the new Club Hotel, Lambton Quay, died last evening as the result of an accident on tho job. Just beforo noon, apparently while Mr. Gray was standing on the ground, a small pinch-bar fell from the third floor, a distance of about 40ft, and struck him on the top of the head, penetrating about 3ui. He was picked up in a few minutes and medical aid summoned, but though an operation was performed, he sank. Mr. Gray was a native of Orkney Islands, about 40 years old. He leaves a widow and three young children. The firm in the last 14 years has carried out a number of important works. It built the Union Company's workshops at Evans Bay, the out-patients building and the Wellington Hospital, and seven drill halls for the Defence Department in various parts of the Dominion. A dairy fanner named William Charles Zabel, aged 43, committed suicide by shooting himself with a shot-gun on Saturday night. He leaves a wife and five children. DROWNED AT NEW PLYMOUTH. VICTIM WORSE FOR LIQUOR. [by TELEGRAPH.— PRESS association.] New Plymouth, Sunday. An inquest on tho body of Jensen, second mate of the schooner C. S. Holmes, was opened yesterday morning, but was aajourned after taking the evidence of the first mate, who stated that Jensen was the worse for liquor when he last saw him.
