MOUNT EDEN AFFAIRS.
INADEQUATE WATER SUPPLY.
JThe Mount Eden Borough Council met ; last evening. There were present: The j Mayor, Mr. 0. Nicholson, Messrs. C. (Hudson, E. D. Stewart, J. P. Hooton, J. i Davis, E. H. Potter, H. E. BaguaU, W. j Woolley, and S. Burns. I The borough engineer, Mr. J. Rogers, I reported that complaint* of the intermitj tent water supply were being constantly made by ratepayers. For some time past I it had been, known that the present water supply was inadequate. The reticulation ,of the borough had been carried out in a ; spasmodical fashion, apparently without , any properly defined scheme, and evidently in such a manner as to meet im [ mediate needs only. When the new drainage system was completed, the consumpI tion of water would be greatly augmented. j All these fact* demonstrated the necessity i for immediately enlarging the mains. .The engineer recommended the adoption i of a modification of the reticulation scheme approved of by the council two vears ago. The Mayor said that, although the former scheme had been approved of members generally had thought the time inopportune for undertaking the work jit would now be generally conceded that i the work was an imperative necessitv j It was decided that the recommendations of the engineer be referred to the Water Committee, in addition to anv comments that may be made bv the city : waterworks engineer. Mr. J. Carlaw The , committee was empowered to call for ten- ! cers for pipes.
