SCHOOL CONCERT The scholars of the Papakura Valley No. 1 school gave a most enjoyable concert in the Alfrifiton Hall, under the able instruction of their teacher, Mr. Bromley. The proceeds, about £5 ss, go to tie Patriotic Fund. While all items were good, tha ambulance work was the most practical. Great praise is due to the teacher. MAMAKTJ. SALE OF WORK. The Christmas tree and sale of work in connection with the Presbyterian Church was held in the Assembly "Hall on Saturday afternoon and evening. There wag a large attendance, especially of children, who appeared to thoroughly" enjoy themselves. The prizes were a good assortment, and the tree was nicely arranged. The stalls, which made a creditable display were in charge of the following :— Mrs. H. Bonlton, sweet; Mrs. R. A. Jackson and Miss Bonlton, flower and produce; Mrs. J. Cowper and Mrs. Waterman, plain and fancy work; Mrs. J. Anderson and Mrs. Kjlgour, refreshment. A guessing competition for a Christmas cake, presented by Mr. Manson, was won by Mr. J. H. Smith. Other competitions resulted : Nail-driving— C. Smith; men, Mr. P. Goodin; clothespeg race—Ladies, Mrs. Smith; men, Mr. G. Sims; shooting, Mr. P. Snelgar; woolwinding for men, Mr. R. A. Jackson. Musical items were given by Mesdames. Gillibrand and Bo niton, and Messrs. Stevenson and Sims.

Awhina Lodge, No. 66, L0.0.F. of New Zealand, held a successful gathering on Monday evening, when the members ritual competitions were decided. There was a large attendance, and Bro. R. A pleasant dance took place in the hall on Saturday night last, as a farewell to Trooper O. Hunter, who is leaving with the ninth reinforcements. Tha guest of the evening was presented with a case of pipes by the MC, who wished him bon voyage and safe return. Three cheers for Trooper Hunter were heartily given. The music was provided by the Tui Band, of Hobsonvflle, and was everything to be desired. The experimental plots are beginning to look well under the supervision of Mr. Rowan.
