ROUMANIAN GOVERNMENT CALLS UP YOUTHS.
STUDENTS IN FAVOUR OF INTERVENTION. QUEEN SUPPORTS THE CAUSE OF THE ALLIES. (Received December 9, 7.30 p.m.) London, December 8. The Roumanian Government has called up the 1917 and 1918 classes of recruits, and has also mobilised naturalised and other foreigners of military age. As a protest against the nomination of a neutralist rector, 23,000 university students have struck, demanding the appointment of Tao Jonescu, a brother of the ardent interventionist. Wholesale bribery is being attempted by the Germans in Roumania. A newspaper, offered £40,000 to turn pro-German, accepted £24,000 to cease publication. Writers are paid from £2000 to £ 12,000 for agreeing to produce pro-German articles. A politician's wife was offered a necklace valued at £13,000 to secure her husband's vote. The Court speaks French, while the Queen supports the cause of the allies. The Germans are leaving no stone unturned to stultify her views.
