Ma. Harry J. Lang, organiser of the Y.M.C.A. Hyderabad building fund, was among the passengers for Sydney by the Riverina yesterday afternoon. Mr. F. Mortimer, a member of the clerical staff of the Devonport Borough Council, has been appointed acting-town clerk during the absence of Mr. J. Wilson on active service. Mr. James Mackenzie, late UnderSecretary for Lands, yesterday received a presentation of plate "and office furniture from the officers of the Department, as a memento of his long connection therewith, says the Press Association. Mr. Maseev made the presentation. Mr. John Stuart Sedaon has received a commission in the Royal Field Artillery. Mr. Seddon, who is the vonngest son of the late Rt. Hon. R. J. Seddon, left New Zealand with the first contingent for Samoa- After serving for some time there he returned to Wellington, and left eight weeks ago for London. This information, says the Press Association, was conveved to Mrs. R. J. Seddon bv cablegram from London. °
