WAITEMATA CLUB'S REPORT.
The animal meeting of the Waitemata I Boating Club will be held to-morrow evening, when the committee will present the report upon the year's operations. The report stated that the. membership ' was greatly reduced owing to the number-that enlisted for active • service and to other causes directly consequent • upon the war. The committee recorded that, notwithstanding depleted ranks, the club was successfully . represented at the various regattas held in the province, as well as at the New Zealand Championship 'Regatta held at Picton, and at the Wairau Regatta, held near Blenheim. The maiden fours (open weights) (tamed first honours at Dotn 01 these last-named regattas, and I>. C. HadP cld .»° the third time successfully upheld his title to the amateur single sculling; championship. At the A.R.A. Regatta the club won the Clark Shield, the non-class challenge fours, and the Marshall Cup for single sculls- > \ The committee reported unon the operation of ' scheme 60," an arrangement by « SSL. 1 * was boped to extinguish the debt of £300 upon the new boathouse by the expedient nof arising each of 60 members' to collect £ 5. _ The endeavour was not successful, the friends of the club having urgent patriotic calls upon their resources. A stock of new oars was added to the plant during the season. The boats are in first-class order, and are capable of accommodating many more members than at present belong to the club. Reference is made to the further expertence.of the club m the matter of the removal of its boathouse site. After a year and a-half s enjoyment of the benefits of the new and up-to-date boathouse the club received notice from the Harbour Board that, in accordance with the agreement between the board and the Railway Department, the building would have to be removed. Representatives of the club were, invited to confer with the board s officials to select a new site and finally one was- chosen on the new sev wall. The board removed the shed, and the re-erection is almost complete In the new position, which has the advantage of deep water at any state of the tide. The club records its deep appreciation of the generous treatment received from the past and present chairmen and members of the board, and also from Messrs. E. Davis and J. Martin *?« Dr. Moir for placing their launch-sheds at the disposal of the club for the storage of boats and plants during the removal. A special tribute of honour was paid to Messrs. .A. S. Endean • and A." who were killed while on active service in Gallipoh. Both were enthusiastic and active members of the club, and both had honourable records as successful oarsmen at regattas. lhanks were cordially given to the officers •of the club for generous assistance, to Messrs. Nash and Tilly for donations of trophies, to the Northern Steamship Company for help m. making the " at homes" a success, to Mr. A. Leonard and Messrs. Bailey and i.owe for use of launches. Mr W G. Smith, vice-commodore of the club 'was an ever-welcome figure at the boathouse on numerous occasions, his practical help being always at the disposal of the -committee and members The challenge shield- which ha presented for rater-club competition to signalise the erection of the new boathouse was one of the features. of last rowing season. . ; v "
