THE ASSOCIATION GAME.

NOTES AND COMMENTS.

After three drawn games Everton has at last annexed the Falcon Cup. There was ?J?2n a f^g*^ B ? l ? i K°° d day m the first spell -of Saturday's 'game, but. as in the previous, finals, the play considerably improved in the second spell. Brotherhood was disappointed . with last weel's result, for with * little more luck th * result might feifi. enrevrsed - * r,y » the Wme Brotherhood scored .a goal: the ball came '♦ifJ O X*Bk ih * wing *? d Knajres got it into v. n > :,-' T ? ere , .?•» * big element of doubt about the legality of the point and. after conferring with- a linesman, the referee ordered a free kick to Everton. This was an unfortunate incident. A similar indecisive goal occurred m the first final. .*?? e Tvl'H fe?* week's came it must be stated that Brotherhood was the unlucky side, and also played the most finished foot, ball. It was noticeable they kept their lines intact, their, forwards got well away and were always sure of support from the halfbacks Winks gave -a. good display, and broke up several likely attacks. Of the forwards the left-wing was the most prominent B?C 1 .? i!* M • : i maln .? JS 08 * of ..-.their, headway with the help of Mcpherson and F. Pearson Knagas again filled the pivot position, and kept the wings well fed. The defence was good, and Wallwork. who was called on in the last minute to -play,'tackled coolly and kicked .well. Oldnall again demonstrated his prowess as *" goalkeeper' of - first-class The Everton attack- was not sustained, only spasmodic efforts being made to score. Wetherspoon delighted the:: spectators with his tricky , play: he Is a second-grade player, and should have a good future. Tho wings were not /.speedy enough, although neither forward lines played anywhere near so. well as they did earlier in the season. The_ Everton halfbacks had a good deal -of work and tackled their task well. Hodgson . as conspicuous in several well-placed attempts, and landed a successful shot just under, tho cross-bar Pitkin and Eoberts were, in good form, the former especially indulging in some high-kicking, which effectively cleared his lines. Craxton gave a good ■ display, although just before time he fumbled the ball, and what looked like a certain goal was. just averted by a cornerkick, the ball going 6in outside the upright On the whole, although the game * was well contested, it was i not up to the previous final, but perhaps both teams were, somewhat tired. i -•;.■• The sympathy, of all sportsmen, and soccer-players in particular, is extended to W. Com of the "Brotherhood Club, on the loss of his son. The lad met with an accident on Wednesday and, although apparently improving on. Thursday and Friday, relapsed into unconsciousness on Saturday morning. He was taken.to the hospital, and died on Sunday morning He was i bright, and cheerful lad, and only the previous Saturday was present at the replayed Cup tie.
