CLAIMS OF THE ENEMY.
AIRMAN OVER RIGA BAY.
BOMBS ON RUSSIAN SHIPS.
Amstebdam, September 27.
A Berlin communique states: "A German airman attacked Russian war vessels, including a ship of the line, in Riga Bay. Hits were observed upon the ship of the line and upon a destroyer. The Russians hastily steamed northwards. The Germans captured another position south-west of Dvinsk, taking 1300 prisoners. Fighting is proceeding along the entire front." CAMPAIGN IN THE WEST.
REPULSE OF ALLIES CLAIMED.
Amsterdam, September 27.
A German communique says: " British warships continue firing isolated shots on the environs of Middelkerke. The allies have renewed attacks south-west of Lille, where our counter-attacks arrested a great offensive. Severe isolated attacks north and south of Loos all collapsed, with English losses. Attacks on both sides of Arras were bloodily repulsed. We captured 25 officers, 2600 men, and 14 machineguns.
" The French offensive at Rheims and in the Argonne has not progressed. It was especially severe on the road between Sommepy and the River Suippe, also north of Beau Sejour farm, where it failed with very heavy losses. We took prisoner 40 officers and 3900 men. We shot down three aeroplanes, including a great French battle aeroplane. Aerial battles took place north-east of Ypres and south-west of Lille. Two French aeroplanes were brought down in Champagne."
