ALLIES AIMING AT RAILWAY COMMUNICATIONS.
NETWORK OF LINES RADIATING FROM LENS.
ATTACK DURING A DELUGE OF RAIN.
(Received September 28, 11 p.m.)
London, September" 28. It is manifest that the prime objective of the allies is the railway communications. Lens and La Basseeare a secondary nucleus of a network of railways only second in importance to Lille, and vital to the security of that all-important centre. Hill 70 dominates Lens, in addition to a . large tract of country eastward, resembling East Lancashire, and covered with an intricate system of railways. The Artois and Champagne battles were fought in abominable weather conditions for attack, there being a deluge of rain.
