GERMANS CLAIM VICTORIES
EAST AND WEST FRONTS.
"HEAVY LOSSES INFLICTED."

Amsterdam, September 27.
A German communique says: "The battle was especially stubborn north of Moulmelon le Grand, close to the Western Argonne. Here we made the enemy suffer the heaviest losses. One of our warplanes shot down an aeroplane west of Cambrai, and another was brought down south of Metz. One of our airmen repulsed an attack on Frieburg by three French warplanes, of which two were shot down.
"General Hindenburg's troops broke through at several points west of Wileschnew. We attacked and drove the Russians over the Beresina, north-west of Sabresin. Further south we reached the Niemen, near Dieleatitascbi, taking prisoner 900 men.
AUSTRIAN STATEMENT. "ATTACKS REPULSED." (Received September 28. 2 a.m.) Amsterdam, September 27.
An Austrian communique sayß: "The enemy with great forces attempted to break our front near Novo Aleximetz. The battle lasted for several days. All the movements resulted in complete Russian defeat. The enemy yesterday attacked ten times to the southward .of Novo Aleximetz, and were repulsed."
