VOYAGE IN RECORD TIME.
AUCKLAND TO LYTTELTON.
[BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CIBaESPONDiaT.] Chkistchttbch, Monday. A nautical record was established by the Commonwealth and Dominion liner Port Albany, which arrived at Lyttelton at 6.20 p.m. on Friday from Auckland. The vessel, which is making her first visit to this port, left Auckland at 4.15 p.m. on Wednesday, and from the time the order was given "Full speed ahead" in Rangitoto Channel until arrival at Lyttelton the voyage of 673 miles was accomplished in the smart time of 48 hour* 52 minutes, or 50 hours from wharf to wharf. The Port Albany is a new steamer, having been launched only last year, and the fact that she is but a single screw makes her performance the more noteworthy. On her present voyage from Home she ran from Newcastle to Auckland in 3 days 15 hours, averaging 14.1 knots. Her average speed from Auckland to Lyttelton was 13} knots, the difference being accounted for by a southerly swell and a northerly wind. The previous record, 56 hours, was held by the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's Corintthic.
