These was an attendance of over 120 sheepfarmers at a meeting. held on Saturday to consider the resolutions passed at a meeting a fortnight ago with reference to shipping facilities and the sale and distribution of surplus commandeered meat) at Home. It was moved, in effect, that the previous meeting was not representative of the farmers of the district, and tsiat this further meeting wholly disapproved of the resolutions ; that the farmers are quite satisfied to leave the adjustment of meat prices during the war in the hands of the' Imperial and New Zealand Governments; that, the control of the - ships by the Imperial . Government . has been of the greatest benefit to -New Zea- 1 land; that this meeting assures tie Premier of its desire to support, in every .1 way. 'in its power, the National Government in this time of Empire necessity, and regrets that any note of dissatisfaction should have been expressed in the name , of the sheepfarmers of Poverty Bay, without their authority. An amendment was carried, by 58 to 40, as follows: That in view of • all the circumstances, particularly regarding the complaints from England about the high cost of meat to the consumers there, which are not justified by the. prices the . farmers are .receiving in i New Zealand, this meeting is of. \ opinion '--* that the whole matter of commandeered..,' meat and shipping should be carefully and ? impartially investigated ,by the authori- , ties." *■• "-,■,- '~,, ... - -.'I- i.- - ; '
