MAORI OFFICERS INVALIDED TO DOMINION.
CASUALTIES OF THE FORCE EARLY IN AUGUST.
(Received September 26, 9 p.m.) Fremantle, September 25. Amongst the passengers on the steamer Khyber, which has arrived from London, are three Maori officers. One, Captain Dansey, stated that the Maori Contingent had been cut up in attacks on August 6 and 8, and the survivors are now incorporated in other units.
The Minister for Defence, Hon. J. Allen, was interviewewd in Wellington last night on . the subject of this cable, and described it as misleading in stating that the Maoris bad been incorporated in other units. The position, as stated by Sir Alexander Godley, is that the Maoris have been attached to the infantry brigade, but they will be kept together as a Maori unit. All the Maori casualties have ■ been published, and they have not so far been toore in proportion than those of other units.
