The modification of the Russian front eastward of Vilna has been so successful that the- enemy is redoubling his effort against Dvinsk, attacking from three sides with heavy artillery, incessant bombs from aeroplanes, and also asphyxiating gases. The Germans show a persistent determination to precipitate events at Dvinsk.
The Russians in. the Friedrichstadfc district, between Riga and Dvinsk, carrying out an energetic offensive, made a great gap in the German lines, and compelled von Buelow to retreat. The Russians captured 1500 prisoners and many machine-guns.
General Ivanoff has had further successes in Volhynia and Galicia.
