MISCELLANEOUS CASES.
One first offender for drunkenness, who did not. appear, was ordered to forfeit 5s bail, and two others, who had deposited 10s each as bail, and did not attend Court, had the amounts estreated. Henry Thomas, who made his fifth appearance within six months on charges of drunkenness, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. He was convicted and discharged for procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Charles Lewis Johnson was convicted on a charge of drunkenness and fined £1 for committing a nuisance in a public place. Thomas O'Brien, alias Michael Ryan, who was found begging alms in Queen Street on the previous day, pleaded guilty to a charge of vagrancy. He had previously been convicted on seven similar charges, including one for begging alms. The magistrate sentenced him to three months' imprisonment. Michael Stenson, alias O'Donnell, charged with committing a nuisance in a public place, was fined £1, in default thrpe days' imprisonment. A charge against John Rabbage (Mr. A. Moody) of feeding a horse in the street by other means than from a nosebag. was dismissed.
Alexander T. Craig was fined £2 and casts. 7s, for driving a motor-car over a railway crossing when an engine was within half-a-mile.
