SHOOTING AND FOOTBALL.
SENIOR CADET MATCHES. [BI TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORBESPONDENT. ] Thames, Sunday. Squads of senior cadets from the 4th, 18th, and 30th Companies. Auckland, arrived at Thames by launch on Saturday morning for the purpose of competing against the local cadet companies in shooting and football matches. The rifle matches were fired in the morning, the contestants being teams of 11 each from the 18th and 30th Companies, under Lieutenants Downey and Hunter, versus two teams from the local company, under Captain Shand. The 30th Company's team won its match by 11 points, scoring 150 to the local team's 139. In the second match the local team won from the 18th Company team by 16 points, scoring 122 to 106. The local competition for the Godley Cup was also decided between the two cadets who had previously tied, namely, O'Brien and Baker, and was won by the former, who scored 19 points out of a possible 20. A football match was played in the afternoon between a team from the 4th Company, Auckland, and the local company, and was won by the local team, after a good game, by 5 points to 3. Buchan scored a try for the local team, which was converted by.Corbott, and Shaw secured a try for the visitors. A match was also played between a Marist Brothers Old Boys' team and, the City Rovers, and was won by the visitors by 2 tries to 1.
