LORRY WRECKS VERANDAH.

The failure of the brakes of a. motor-lorrv to art resulted in a verandah of a shop in Victoria Street being wrecked yesterday afternoon. At about four o'clock the motor-lorry, which belongs to Messrs. Thompson and Hills, was proceeding up Victoria Street and, when near Albert Street, something went wrong with the brakes. The car ran backwards down the hill on to the carriers' .stand, and struck a horse. When an attempt was being made to get dear of the horse the motor struck three o| the verandah posts of the shop of Mr. George Mcßride, tailor The posts were levelled to the ground, and the verandah was brought down. The lorrv was not damaged by the impact, but the driver sustained a cut 011 the hand
