TORTUOUS DIPLOMACY IN THE BALKANS.
GERMAN EFFORTS TO SET STATE AGAINST STATE.
DEMONSTRATION ON THE ROUMANIAN FRONTIER Times and Sydney Sun Sen-ice*. Received August 16, G p.m.! / London*, August 15. Reports from Geneva state that an important movement of Aust ,. o . erman troops ,« i„ progress on Anstro . Servian M(| Roumanian frontiers. It is believed that action against Servia. i, imminent, the proximity of Anstro-Cerman troops on , he Ronmanian frontier has given rise to a fear of Austro-German action against Houmania. Donmania ha, called ten classes of troops to Hag raised font divisions „f reserves, and has generally taken verv serin,,, measures. i A message from Amsterdam declares that 10.000 German troop, have been transferred from Warsaw to the Servian front. Ke, iter's correspondent at Athens declares that the statements current that there is a serious difference between M. Venizelos and e vms 01 Greece are pure inventions, emanating (rom German sources. it. \ enizelos will only expose his views „ hen the King summons him. The Greek Foreign Minister and the Servian Legation denv that here is any truth in rumours of Serbo-Grecian differences. The relations between the two States are cordial- It is believed that the rumours were instigated from German sources to make the people believe that the cession of territory which Servia is disposed to make to Bulgaria would upset the Greco-Serbian Alliance. It was hoped that the rumours would perhaps precipitate a quarrel among the allies. M. Lanesep, a former French Minister of Marine, proclaims the necessity of the allies disembarking troops at the farther end of the Gulf of Saros in order to develop an attack on the Turkish mainland. The allies could then easily assume mastery of the Sea of Marmora, and the operation would convince the Balkan Powers that their interests are identical to the allies'. The Times' correspondent in Paris says: 'News of further successes in the Dardanelles is awaited with great eagerness. It is felt that the negotiations with the Balkan Governments will be without result unless the allies demonstrate by more vigorous reinforcements and action not only their determination to force the Dardanelles, but the certainty of success- Various reports indicate that the Germans share this view. They are concentrating troops and stores at Tomesvar, Xeusatz, and in the Orsova region, presumably with the object of an ffensive against Servia, in the hope of arriving to aid the lurks before, their resistance at the Dardanelles is overcome l„ the circumstances it is felt here that the arguments supplied by the allies' troops at the Dardanelles are weightier with Bulgaria than those of the Chancellories."
