Los-don, May II
An official message from Berlin states;—" The British and French attack delivered south-west of Lille was intended as a reply to our success in Galicia. It was directed against the German positions east of Fleurbaix, east of Richebourg, and at Vermelles. Ablain, Neuville, and Saint Laurent, near Arras. At least four fresh army corps, besides old troops, made repeated attacks, which were everywhere repulsed with very heavy losses, especially to the British.
"We took 500 prisoners. The enemy occupied our advanced trenches between Carency and Neuville, north of Arras. A counterattack is proceeding."
