AMAZING BRAVERY AND DASH OF AUSTRALASIANS.
ONLY FAULT THEIR DISDAIN OF COVER.
IMPETUOSITY LEADS THEM INTO PERIL.

Athens, May 9.
An eyewitness of the recent fighting on the Gallipoli Peninsula states that the heaviest losses were borne by the New Zealanders and Australians, whose one fault is their complete disdain of cover. Their bravery and dash are amazing. In some cases the men, after rushing the first Turkish trenches in ten minutes, charged ahead, despite appeals from their officers, penetrating several miles inland. They suffered heavily when Turkish reinforcements compelled them to retreat. The Homo troops pay the warmest tributes to the New Zealanders and Australians. German officers on one occasion endeavoured to create a diversion by donning the uniforms of British and Australian officers, mingling with the men and giving false orders.
