ONEHUNGA'S CONTRIBUTION.

SUM 'OF £150 SUGGESTED.

A letter was read at the Onehunga Borough Council last night from Mr. R. Burns, Acting-Consul for Belgium, thanking the council for donating the sum of £50 to the Belgian Relief Fund. The Mayor, Mr. J. Rowe, raised the l question of the total amount to be subI scribed to this fund by Onehunga. He ! reminded the council that Onehunga had i been asked to subscribe £150 towards the ! purchase of the Lindauer Maori pictures i for the fund. He asked if the council I would make up this amount or any por- ! tion of it. Would it vote the money from ! the borough finances or ask the public of | Onehunga to subscribe it privately? - Mr. Pardington thought the council j should not give any more at present, but ! should later on vote a further sum from | the rates.

No action was taken.
