SAFEGUARDING THE PUBLIC.

Paris ( May 8.

The French Government is requisitioning all existing corn supplies on the basis of 32 francs (£l 5s 4d) per quintal (3.67 bushels). Existing stocks are . estimated at 18,000,000 quintals. The State has contracted for the supply of 12,000,000 quintals before August 15.

The Government has taken this action to prevent any artificial advance in price. There is sufficient wheat in France to meet all requirements until the harvest.
