SEEKING A SETTLEMENT.
JAPANESE EFFORTS. PROPOSALS MODIFIED. London, May 7. The Tokio newspaper, Nichinichi Shimbun, states that China has intimated a desire to enter into an arrangement that will avoid a rupture. Japan has further modified her original proposals, and instructed her Minister at Pekin to renew his efforts to effect a solution.
