SHIPWRIGHTS' WAGES.
AWARD BY THE COURT.
[by telegraph.— press association.] Wellington, Sunday. The Arbitration Court has filed an award in the Wellington shipwrights' dispute. In a memorandum the Court states that tie chief question in dispute was wage*', which the Court fixed at the same rate as in the Port Chalmers award. Foremen, under weekly engagement, are excluded from the operation of the award, but the Court refused to exclude workmen similarly engaged.
The award provides for a week of 44 hours, with payment for journeymen at the rate of Is 7d per hour, overtime to be time and a quarter for first two.hours, and time and a half thereafter. Extra payment is to be made for work done on holidays and in meal hours. Men are to be paid for travelling time when engaged away from the usual place of business. Salvage work is to be paid for according to arrangement. Disputes -are io be decided by the Inspector of Awards. Men engaged on "dirty work" are to b« paid Is 9d per hour. Preference to unionists is granted. The award applies to an area within 12 miles of the Wellington Post Office, and will operate for two years from May 17. A qualified exemption is granted in! the case of the Harbour Board, subject to | the minimum wage being paid.
