PHILANTHROPIC SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of. the St. Vincent de Paid Society was held in tho Hibernian Hall, the Right Rev. Monsignor Brodie, V.G., presiding. Tho report showed that the society has done good woik amongst the poor of the city during the year. Four hundred and: twonty-two persons had been relieved and 1583 visits had been made to the poor in their own liomes; also 552 visits have been made to tho hospital, gaol, Costley Home, ships, and various charitable institutions. Several cases of neglected children had been attended to and the children placed in homes. Medical aid has been provided for 28 persons and in many case's'the sick had been nursed by members of the society. ■ Practically onothird of the.total receipts has been contributed by tho members. Tho ladies' conferences collected _ 430 second-hand articles of clothing, which were distributed in, the city and the gurafields. They worked ono day for the •'Belgians with the result that some 300 new and second-hand articles were banded over for, this deserving object. The. financial statement showed that there was a credit balance of £41 16s sd. The report and balance-sheet were adopted.
