General Manoury stooped down, and 6urvoyed the enemy* through a loophole, and at that precis© instant a bullet whistied through the- aperture, knocked General Manoury's eye out, and fractured tin maxillary bone.
The same projectile struck General De ViUaret in the middle of the fo-ehead, but whereas General Manoury fell at once to the bottom of the trench, General De Yillaret thinking he himself had received no more than a slight blow from a lump of earth, remained standing, and concerned himself about his brother generah He subsequently walked a mile bfe lore he fell in his turn, stunned by the, pain.
