RAILWAY TO AWAROA.
GOOD PROGRESS MADE. fEY TELEGRAPH.OW.V CORBESPOXrENT. ] Hcxtlt, Friday. Excellent progress is being made with the construction work in connection with the Huntlv-Awaroa Railway. A site is being excavated for a commodious and up-to-date railway station, while two residences for railway officials are in course of erection. From the junction, the main line, authorised as far as the Burnt Bridgeor, as it is also named, Basley's Corner —goes directly west, a. branch to the right leading to the Pukemiro mine. Here an amount of cutting is being done, some 100 men being employed on the work. Competent authorities are of opinion that this mine will be connected with Hontly by rail about June next. The proposed name of the station at the i unction is said to be " Mahuta," so called after the late " king" of the Maoris —a name that does not find favour either with the natives, who do not consider naming a railway station after " royalty" a compliment, tr with the settlers, who consider that " Awaroa" ■would have been decidedly more appropriate, in that the district isalready well known and identified ■fritfe ' such nomenclature.
