[ Kioreroa to Mangapai and on toward* Waikiekie is progressing satisfactorily "jr under the Public Works Department. j ; Already the earthworks are well in hand as far as Moewhare. ■ - 1? ; The railway station and new shipping wharf at Oakleigh will be the means OX ?i;Kcreating a business centre there which can . be reached by railway or steamer service. It has been suggested that Mangapai * be formed into a town district. The ; board would take control of the Mangapai River and improve its navigation by ■/sf'fy straightening and deepening the river in Jaj places. To allow a regular steamer ser-\ vice to the rising township, it would be necessary to raise a small loan to construct roads and to carry out the deepening of the river to the proposed railway - wharf. Such a proposal would probably -s receive the support of the ratepayers and residents.
