BISHOP'S MOTOR TOUR,
VISIT TO THE FAR NORTH.
ARRIVAL AT AHTPARA
[by telegraph.—own correspondent.]
Ahipara, Thursday. The motor trip through the districts of the Far North, which is being undertoken by Dr. Cleary, Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, has been successfully advanced another stage. The- bishop, accompanied by Father Bruning, arrived at Ahipara last evening on his way to Te Paki, from the Houhora and Waiharara gumfields. Several Europeans and a large body of natives gathered to witness the bishop making the first attempt by any motorist to pass on his own power over the deep and dreaded soft lands of Ahipara to the firm bench beyond. With six chains around the tyro of each back wheel the bishop charged the hill at a very rapid pace, amidst the applause of the onlookers. The car, then turning to the left, proceeded at considerable speed to the hard beach, which wis reached after only two short stops of a few minutes each. The comings of a motor on the beach was a matter of keen local interest Bishop Geary, who stayed at Ahipara to-day, expects to reach Te Paki by motor on to-morrow afternoon's low tide.
