Patent leather shoes, in spite of their smart appearan< e, ate a woe to their possessor unless tin' latter is wealthy, and can consequently discard them as soon as cracks appear " Nothing is smarter than patent, leather shoes when the surface is smooth, or more unsightly when they are covered with myriad cracks. These cracks can be obviated by cleaning the shoes every week with vaseline. Begin by sp"ngii,~ them with clean cold water. vy.pi- vv'oJl v. ith a soft cloth, apply a tiny coal ins; of v.is line, and pjlish off with an old silk handkerchief.
