FIRST DAY'S RACING. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Hastings, Friday. ' The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Summer Meeting was opened to-day in splendid weather. The course was a trifle hard. There was a big attendance of the* public and some excellent racing was witnessed. The Bum of £19,687 was put through the totalisator, an increase of £2012 on the amount put through on the corresponding day last year. Field Force was favourite. Gloria led at the start, but soon over hauled Field Force, who led to the back : stretch into the straight.
